I had the cheese burger for lunch and it was fine, but nothing to get ultra-excited about. Fries were good. The reviewer who joked about the PDA order taking was spot-on as my order didn't go through and after 15 minutes, another woman had to punch it into the computer that was right next to my table. I'm impressed with the assortment of foods here, but from a burger standpoint, it's just average. I would try again one of the Vietnamese dishes next time to see how they handle that type of food. Also, not sure about the "fountain" in the name as I saw no evidence of a shakes or ice cream on the menu.

I kept hearing everyone talk about how good PHO was, so I decided to order it from this place...and boy was that a mistake. Woke up in the middle of the night with severe stomach pains, followed by vomiting. I don't think I'll be eating PHO again.

This place is really good! I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and my friends ordered the Chicken Parm and the Deluxe Cheese Steak. Everyone was more than satisfied with their selections. My only issue, was the slight communication barrier between the customer and the servers. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place to a friend.

This place is the bomb. How often can one person go to Vietnam and the other to Italy? Come to think of it ... I'd like to travel to both. :) Got the eggplant veal parmesan. Loved it! Adam was into his pho as well. Looks like we'll be returning to ItaliNam soon!

[updating for Jason G of 2008]* Enter thru cottage doors into the world of laminated food photos glass tabletops, paper place mats and water lily blooms floating in bubble glass. Your waitperson, nattily in apron & poised with stylus-on-palm-pilot, ready the get-go to cyber send your order to the grill chef 7 steps (or less) away. Your beverage and salad are on the table in the time it takes to pivot. Your teacup is always full. -and, always pleasant. "soup or salad?" . . . last night's Beef Liver and onions/ add bacon was the perfect sear -yes, juicy inside! I love their spaghetti sauce, heavily sprinkle the parmesano, vegetables "medley" are never senior citizen SOFT like at Original... 's, squeeze of lemon. -and, that weird-but-fun-tasty toasted French bread! Importantly, generous portions -to the very edge of the plate. It's a good thing I like onions, true SMOTHER, mother! -all for under $11, even with the added bacon. Yes, the burger does rival Bill's, with auto-fries! -the doneness you want. [Do not order the curried lamb.] * Breakfasts are phenomenally -good, clean, delicious (enormous patty of hash browns). This is not my favorite place to have Vietnamese. The Japanese stuffs next door are B+. They don't understand my Japanese. . . b'coz the waitstaff is CHINESE, as is that Noriega place. 'nuff said. LET'S GO TONIGHT!

So, there was pho, spaghetti and meatballs, and philly cheese steaks. Whaaat? I don't bring my special 3 sided coin everywhere I go, you know. So being the large Asian man that I am, I ordered Pho Tai large (pho with rare steak). It was okay, however, I didn't like how my meat kept sticking together so instead of thin slices, I had big clumps of meat. I mean, I'm no princess but I'm just sayin' I like to savor each piece with my pho. I also didn't like how the pho was a couple bucks more expensive than regular pho joints. On the other hand, I did like how the pho seemed never ending.. I didn't give up eating cause I don't like to lose but in the end I was very full nonetheless. I suppose next time I come, I'll be less of an Asian and order some American or Italian goods. I'll order in Italian next time too instead of ordering in Vietnamese.

Got American Grill's new menu item, the Kobe Burger this time in hopes that the taste and texture match the presentation photo. It tasted exactly the same as a regular cheeseburger, but at 4 dollars more. Though the presentation is different (you get a free onion/lettuce salad, slightly more fries (it seems), and a round bun instead of a roll). The Kobe burger was good as expected, but there was literally no difference between the Kobe burger than a cheeseburger. for the price of a kobe burger, u could get a regular burger with fries, and an extra appetizer if u wanted. one new thing implemented is the lunch deal. basically u just get a free soda in a paper cup with whatever burger u order. not exactly sure about the details since i have only been there once, but i'd recommend asking and dining here.

i got the grilled pork with noodles (vietnamese dish) and it was alright... i don't think its better than kim son, their neighbor, that's for sure, but there is the delivery option and so why we went there. my friend got the grilled cheese with tomato which actually looked pretty good but i saw that he didn't finish his fries... my other friend got a cheeseburger and that didn't look bad at all and smelled pretty good but he threw part of his burger away so i'm taking that as a bad sign. all in all, i might cave and order from them again given that they are the only vietnamese delivery that i know of in the area but not certain i would actually go to their restaurant to eat there... if only they stopped over to purple kow and delivered me a drink, too. that'd be sweet...and well worth buying from them...

This restaurant has a very special place in my heart, as it is the place I literally grew up going to on the weekends; a family favorite basically ^ ^ This place is the perfect place to go if you are feeling hungry, but are not quite sure what you want. Here you will find a very large menu of Italian food, American food, and Vietnamese food. Obviously, this is also a great place to take friends who are indecisive. I muse highly recommend this places ABC burger. Its a wonderful Avacado Bacon and Cheese burger that for years, has always been cooked perfectly, and fills you up well. The decor of this restaurant is pretty basic, nothing too special, but this isn't meant to be a fancy place, its a place where you go when you are hungry, and want a reliable and good sit down meal. I should point out, the portions here are quite large! So expect to take some home with you! Been coming here for almost 15 years now, and I don't see that tradition stopping anytime soon! *Chirp*

Americana is a vietnamese/Italian/American restaurant.. It accommodate those picky choosers who can't make up their minds. Each time I ordered from this restaurant I would get their vietnamese items and is pretty good. I had their vermicelli dish with beef and egg roll, also had their bun bo hue which is also tasty. They give you a generous size portion and is priced reasonably. Their delivery service here is quick and convenient. Will definitely continue to order here.

I really enjoyed this restaurant, the variety of foods on the menu makes this place very versatile, something for everybody, it's like three restaurants in one! has a classic diner type atmosphere and decor and the service was excellent they make great tasting vietnamese & italian dishes, I havent ordered the Philly cheese steak with fries yet, but I'll try that on my next visit reasonable prices, fast service, generous portions, very clean the vietnamese beef stew soup with your choice of noodles or French roll was pretty good

My review for this American, Italian and Vietnamese restaurant is for the Italian food only. When it comes to Italian food, particularly pasta, the sauce is key. If your sauce is bad your pasta is a failure. The pasta sauce at Americana reminds me of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee. Don't get me wrong. I like the stuff. As a kid I grew up on canned pasta whether it was Chef Boy-Ar-Dee or Franco American. Going home after school to a nutritious hot meal usually meant popping open a can of pasta and heating it up. I didn't need to open a can at the Americana. The service here is excellent. They take your order promptly and the food comes out of the open kitchen beside you very quickly. I was in the neighborhood dropping off a package, and it was nice just to get out of the cold and walk into the double door restaurant. After intently studying the little photos of popular dishes of some of the specialties here and checking out the specials taped to the wall I chose something familiar and comforting to me, pasta. I had the Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Mushrooms ( yelp.com/biz_photos/G_fj… ), and returning to the specifics of the sauce it was sweet, it was thick and it was just a bit pastey. The meat part of the sauce was almost nonexistent. There were a handful of meat crumbles in the sauce, but the big pieces of mushrooms were quite firm (unlike canned sauce). The pasta was a bit overcooked past the al dente stage but not yet overcooked to the point of mushiness. The portion was very good. Garlic bread comes with the entrée as well as your choice between soup and salad. I selected the clam chowder ( yelp.com/biz_photos/G_fj… ) which was a bit runny but had big chunks of potatoes and an abundance of chewy clams in a full-flavored broth. The pasta sauce at the Americana would make Hector Boiardi, the chef behind Chef Boy-Ar-Dee, proud.

I've only been here one time, but I was really pleasantly surprised with it. We wound up here when the place we were planning on for lunch ended up being closed. From the outside, this place looks like nothing much, and the decor is nothing fancy on the inside either. The servers were friendly and helpful, and the price was definitely right for my budget! Note: I didn't really dive into any of the Vietnamese or Italian food. I got the BLT sandwich with fries and shared an appetizer of egg rolls with my group. Everything I had was great, and everyone else in my group seemed to enjoy theirs as well. The food came out really quickly too, which is always a plus. Overall, a solid place to come for a quick, cheap, no-frills lunch.

Today was my first time getting a Bacon Cheese burger here and I was really not expecting anything amazing, common it's a Vietnamese American food place. I was pleasantly surprised, when I asked for my meat cooked medium I was expecting them to overcook it for sure, NOPE! It was perfect medium! Not only was my meat perfectly cooked, the french bread it was on was good, the lettuce and tomatoes was fresh and the Bacon was nice and Thick and perfectly cooked! Yes I am really amazed. Ohh and the fries were crispy and thick! Pretty damn good and big!

This is a nice casual place. Their Vietnamese food is pretty good! Their American food leaves a lot to be desired. Just stick with the Vietnamese They are very friendly. They always say HELLO! And service is good. I'd recommend it to friends and enemies alike.

In its own greasy way, Americana is appropriately named since it reflects a melting pot of dishes that you would only find in this country. Actually only in this city probably. In fact, I think only a Bay Area local could appreciate a menu that circles the globe from here to Italy to Vietnam. However, you wouldn't be flying first-class in that analogy. Or economy. You would probably be where the luggage is and where the heavily sedated cats are in those plastic cage carry-ons. Jamie W. and I came upon the Americana simply because we got frustrated driving around Clement and 25th hoping for a parking space to open up on a Friday night. I knew this stretch of Balboa wouldn't be crowded since dining options are slim, and I'm just not a major fan of Shanghai Dumpling King. That basically meant going to Americana, which looks like it was transported intact from the Tenderloin. Complete with regulars, it's a "clean" greasy spoon that would be a Vietnamese restaurant if there was enough interest in one in this neck of the woods. Volume plays a key role in their dishes, so do come hungry and without any nutritional sensibilities. I went for one of their white-board specials, the $13.95 Prime Rib and Spaghetti combo (see photo). I'm still not sure if those were really vermicelli noodles in the spaghetti (I kept thinking it may have been leftover pho noodles) - and the sauce was the watery kind with no texture. I was on splatter alert throughout. The prime rib was indeed a slab of beef but ham-like in taste and covered in an inexplicable sauce that seemed more appropriate for a turkey plate. I also got a very generic bowl of Clam Chowder as a starter (see photo). Surprisingly, Jamie went all ethic and ordered the $5.95 BBQ Pork and Rice plate which definitely seemed more in line with our expectations (see photo). But then he also got an unexpectedly pricey ($4.95) order of Curly Fries (see photo) which brought him back to this country, the good ol' U.S. of A. They seem to love to take photos of their food (just like me!) because there were laminated placards underneath the Lucite table-toppers to remind us what we ordered. By the way, this appears to be a congregation point for the rowdy local youth given the favorable price-to-volume ratio. FOOD - 3 stars...pump up the volume, just don't get picky with the quality AMBIANCE - 2 stars...experience the Tenderloin in the Outer Richmond SERVICE - 3 stars...fast and efficient...maybe they should just turn it into an Automat TOTAL - 3 stars...a global greasy spoon

I wish this place was better because it would be a convenient place to have lunch and it's really one of the only "diner" type places around. They have skimpy portions, with prices that are more than u'd spend for a full meal yet they come with nothing. Example:many of the sandwiches are around $10 and come with NOTHING. Adding fries will up your total significantly and the food was not very good. Got the chicken philly and I could make better at home.

You know, would never think I'd see a Vietnamese and Italian food be mixed together in one restaurant. My boyfriend was talking about it and saying how good it was, i did not believe him until i tried it. LOL.Everytime I talked to him I would ask him where he was eating and he said Americana Grill. I tried it one time because our friends were hung over and they were craving Pho, so we decided to go there. They had a variety of Italian food, Vietnamese food and breakfast food. My boyfriend had got corn beef and hash and i got Vermicilli Noodles with chicken and eggrolls. My other two friends got PHO, of course. The portions for the meals were pretty good.I love their Vermicilli noodles. It was a lot eat and they give a good amount. They don't even skimp you out on the chicken or egg rolls, like some restaurants do. The pho bowls are pretty big. I went there two days ago and my friend just ordered PHO and it looked like she ordred a large but i think thats just the normal size they serve it in! Now for their Italian food, i would recommend the Lasagne...that thing is pretty good! Its cheesy, fresh from the oven, doesn't taste like microwave lasagne and its a really good portion. I also had the fettuccine chicken alfredo. I will be honest, it was ok. A bit runny on the sauce. I would not order that one again. It was worth a try tho. Customer Service is good. I've never really had to wait on anything. Ive been here like 5 times cause I do not live in Sf, but when I'm in the city and want something close to my boyfriends house and somewhere I know where I won't get dissappointed... this is where i will go. ONE MORE THING... THE VIETNAMESE COFFEE IS ON POINT THO.

This place is perfect for everyone since it has both Italian and VIetnamese options. I remember sitting in class one day with a friend who really really wanted spaghetti...and I really wanted pho...so the first place that came to mind was OF COURSE Americana! Their Italian options are reasonably priced with EXTREMELY generous portions. The hamburgers are served on a french roll, can't go wrong! Check it out, most of the things are fairly good. I've gotten the Vietnamese and Italian options and both are made pretty well! Definitely on my list of go-to's in the city!

I like this place a decent amount. Why you ask? Because it's cheap and sells the best damn salad I've tasted! (Besides the ones I make of course. :D) Now, this review is solely on me ordering salad. It's cheap, its big, its delicious. What more is there to ask for. I don't ask for too much customer service, but it's there.

The menu is WEIRD but the food is good. Vietnamese and Italian food mixed with the traditional American grill menu. Funny stuff. But overall this place is well priced, the food is decent, and its super convenient since theres not much else in the neighborhood. Their breakfast foods are bomb and the service isn't bad either. My only issue is last time I got charged 3 times for my meal. And 2 charges were totally random amounts. They don't know how to reverse it in their machines so I had to go pick up cash from the owner. I guess accidents happen and it wont stop me from coming back again, I'll just be sure to check my bank statement afterword.

My family loves coming here since there is major variety, everyone can order what they want to eat without complaining. The food is always good and the service is great also. A few years back they opened the Viet place right next door, so keep in mind that you can order from next door too and get it delivered right into Americana lol.

  • Jackson G.

I do not understand the positive response Americana has received. Just because they serve Vietnamese, Italian and American food all in the same place does not mean they serve good Vietnamese, Italian and American food all in the same place. In fact, none of the three are even close to good. Unfortunately, I've been here a few times, usually with a group of five or six, so I've tried a good number of their dishes, searching for something palatable. And while I've managed to forget the majority of their mediocre items, entrees such as the chicken fried steak and the meatball sandwich remain with me due to their ability to induce diarrhea. Yeah, sorry I had to take it there, but this place really sucks. The fact that it managed to secure a four star rating has somewhat jarred my faith in Yelp. Seriously, for your own good, keep your distance.

  • Chatree T.

I ordered pho and spring rolls from this place. The pho broth was flavorful and yummy. They gave a good amount of meat and noodles, that's a plus! The spring roll was not that good. The wrap was a little tough and their peanut sauce was bland. The service was good. The decor reminds me of a home. I like the concept of Vietnamese and Italian together, but I was afraid to try the Italian food. Well, I am not a fan of Italian food. The Vietnamese food I tried was good, but it didn't leave me wanting to come back. If you're in the Outer Richmond this place is worth a try.

Italian-Vietnamese?! I admit I was skeptical when I saw the sign, but I was starving and my friend took me here for a very late lunch. My bacon cheeseburger came on french bread (like the ones you get for bahn mi) with a good portion of fries. My friend ordered the prime rib which came with grilled buttered bread, soup or salad, and spaghetti. We pretty much rolled out of the restaurant. My friend's clam chowder was a bit watery and the burger and prime rib slightly saltier than I'd prefer, but overall everything was tasty. Definitely didn't lack flavor! There weren't a lot of patrons at the time, so our orders came out quickly. All in all, I wouldn't go expecting anything great, but Americana's definitely a decent restaurant considering the taste, price and portions.

I havent been here since high school yr, after playing basketball all day and were at the coffee shop a block away. my friends and I were hungry so we went there, the owner still reconized me after all these yrs. Their foods are tasty..especially beef stew cuz its my favoriteeeee.

Italy...and Vietnam? How did this restaurant happen? When I first saw their menu, my mind automatically flashed visions of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry tries to help a man named Babu and his multi-ethnic restaurant...that fails terribly. Needless to say, I was having second thoughts about coming in here. However, a constant flux of people coming in and out for lunch was a signal for my instinct to pull me back in, so I thought, "Okay, this is a decent number of patrons, why not?" And I'm VERY glad I stayed. This place serves up LARGE portions of good food for CHEAPPPP. My boyfriend and I shared a big bowl of beef pho and a gigantic dinner plate of lemon grass pork chops & rice that were both hearty and delish. He ordered a beer, and I ordered a Vietnamese Iced coffee, which was wonderfully strong without the bitterness. All this for just under $20. THAT is amazing. I'm sold on Americana, but my only qualm at this point? Their solo toilet in the back is equipped with a MacGuyver-style pull-lever made of twine that makes me worry about their health inspection report...but not too much!

You will sit down & think to yourself "I absolutely NEED a cheeseburger. I need a cheeseburger so bad that I can smell it...I can taste it on my lips, but I haven't even ordered it yet". And you will order that cheeseburger, & when that cheeseburger arrives, it will magically be TWO CHEESEBURGERS. TWO. CHEESEBURGERS. Granted, it was after Bay to Breakers, so I was extremely drunk, but if memory serves me, they were two of the finest cheeseburgers I've ever had.

  • Gilbert C.

I was attracted to this place cus it was always filled with customers during times I went and I wanted to see how they stacked up to Little Henry's. My conclusion....almost the same thing. But for some reason I didn't like this place as much. Maybe I need to try more dishes. I've only been here 2 times. The first time, I had KICKASS breaded & fried oysters but they WAY over flooded my pasta with sauce....looked more like soup! Second time, I ate something forgettable and the Viet soup my bro had was mediocre. So basically, theyre decent but not great. Go if youre hungry and need a fix, stay away if youre picky and expect high quality.

Can't make up your mind or 2 different types of food wanted? Then this is your place- Vietnamese/Italian joint on Balboa You can have Pho, a Philly sandwich, a burger, and pasta all in the same place. Good portions for the price!

Went here with a couple friends for a quick lunch. They offer typical diner fare and vietnamese pho. The service was quick, to the point, and short on formalities. I got the Linguine Chicken "Al Fredo". Despite many things being on the plate - steamed veggies, pasta, alfredo sauce - I couldn't taste much. Totally bland and watery. Good thing my meal wasn't very expensive. Disappointing!

I will admit that I had never been to (let alone heard of) a Vietnamese + Italian restaurant. One of my good friends lives close by this place, and says that the chef (who is Vietnamese) used to work at an Italian restaurant, so he thought it would be a good idea to combine the two cuisines he knows best. There are two separate menus, and both consist of filling, traditional dishes like pho and spaghetti, but of course there's also the American spin, with burgers, fries and onion rings. It's also really cute and pleasant inside--checkered tablecloths, nothing too showy or gawdy; just a nice little place to have a casual but enjoyable meal.

Breakfast was about 6 hours ago, so I should really like my burger and fries right? Wrong! Well, it wasn't bad, but I didn't like the beef because I could taste the gaminess of it even with the onions, tomato, lettuce, and ketchup. The texture of the fries were brittle starch which was the best way I could describe them. I felt bad because my friends and I went in after a few hours on the archery field to get a very belated lunch and the staff were preparing to have their lunch, yet they also had to serve and cook for us at the same time. Sorry! I'm sure they were hungry too, but they got our orders and got the dishes out in a timely manner. Thank you!

This is a great Vietnamese, Italian, American diner. Some dishes are misses but you always get your money's worth (huge portions!). I love their garlic pork chop, mushrooms & rice ($11.95), the ABC (avocado, bacon and cheese burger for $8.95). Other friends have loved the garlic shrimp fettuccine, half a roasted chicken. The pho & breakfast items are just ok. Really great value and it's run by a really nice & lovely family. Go check it out! The Balboa theater is just a block away to catch a movie afterwards. Time to patronize some old school places to keep them around.

This place is 'old reliable' for me. Why you say? Simply because if anything else, they are consistent. It's like the local version of cracker barrel: breakfast rocks and everything else taste like newbie wine (pretty much, you have to develop a taste for 75% of their menu). Let's face it, it's an Italian slash Vietnamese restaurant ran by Chinese. I know - that's not making a whole lot of sense. So, I recommend sticking with what you know. Stay away from anything fried - especially the appetizers. Breakfast, breakfast, breakfast. That's pretty much it. Their breakfast rocks. Their pancakes and french toast alone could end the war in Iraq. The way they cook their bacon keeps you guessing whether or not you could duplicate it at home. I'll save you the suspense - no you cannot. But, you also cannot go wrong with anything they offer for breakfast. Well, I lied...their breakfast steaks should be left alone as well. I enjoy garlic as much as the next freak, but there's a point that even bone-core Italians are like, "that's entirely too much garlic" on top of a poor cut. So, you've been warned.

This place is freakin amazing. You need to spend a week here just to read the menu. Its ridiculous. This is going to be my go to spot when I have to drive the skinny cow back to her shack in the Richmond. The beef stew with french bread is a good appetizer. This dish is not a meal. The veal parm was good. It was on teh heavy side. The dish I want to try when I go back ois the 7 spiced half a chicken. It was freakin huge. The portion sizes here are pretty big. You can feed a family or one fatty like me.

Was introduced to this place by my grandparents who live on 30th Ave. Its a nice, decent old fashioned restaurant that serves American, Italian, and Vietnamese food. I especially like their Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, but the downside is fries cost extra. The couple of servers they have are always nice when I come with my grandparents (probably because we are regulars). Breakfast is ok, the portion size could be a lot larger for the price. I would still go to Denny's or IHOP over this place. Pho is tasty if you want something different, and the Italian is ok, about on par with Henry's down the street. So the only reason I would recommend this place would be for the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich!

Ha ha. Been going here since middle school. My family are loyal customers. Every time they said we were going out to eat, I'd perk up and have a smile on my face and be like "where?" And 95 percent of the time, they'd say Americana. I was so sick of Americana. But secretly, I really liked this place. Great Vietnamese food and pasta. Good place to take a whole bunch of people, because there are so many things on the menu! Thai iced tea, egg yolk soda, 3 bean drink, Thai iced coffee...what else could you want? Really good grilled chicken on the rice plate or on vermicelli. Only thing that isn't so great are the burgers. But hey, the food is so cheap, who can complain?

LOVE their ossobucco! Was the first time I ever tried it off my dad's plate and I've been loving it ever since. The pho is not bad and their sandwiches and burgers are fullfilling. Its a pretty expansive menu and the service is always very friendly!

  • Jeanne L.

The breakfast here is atrocious. My hash browns were a mushy mess, the bacon was burnt crispy, eggs greasy + slimy, and coffee was burnt. I usually come here with my brother for lunch. The lemon chicken is alright; you'll love it if you love butter b/c there is no shortage of that on it. Huge portions. The pho is good. Taste like my mum's.

Not going to say anything that wasnt already said by everyone else. Food is good to great if it was just one type of eatery then i'd give it a 3 star but the extra fourth is for having an unexpected diversity so if you order something you dont like hopefully you'll go back and try something completely different

Came here today with my family for father's day. It was around lunch time so it was packed but we were seated immediately. We had vietnamese cuisine, Pho and to my surprise it was really good. I had Pho Ga and it was one of the best Pho Ga's I've had in the city for a long time without any chicken skin or chicken bones in my bowl. Too bad I've never ate here until today after living so close for sooooo many years. A new favorite and will of course definetely be back for more.

Okay, so the chicken soup is kinda bland and their salad is just pretty much lettuce (minus 1/2 star for that)... the pork chop and sirloin steak is CHEAP and DIVINE!!! My seafood tomato soup noodle was pretty good and so was the chicken with rigatoni pasta!!! BTW: the service is good but I have the luck of being able to speak in Cantonese and I taught my (Caucasian) husband a few choice worlds at certain times, which totally impressed the kitchen and wait staff, which gave us friendlier service too! :-) And did I mention that the food here is CHEAP!?!?!?!? Our bill for two not counting tip was just under $30 (and I HAVE leftovers!!!) =:-O P.S. This place is totally BAD for a diet!!! :-P (Which unfortuately is the other 1/2 star off... I need to see more diet friendly dishes that are hearty and tasty as their other dishes are too! :-) ETA 6/8/2008: So the diet thing is NOT a legit reason for taking a 1/2 star off... but THIS IS!!! I found one cold spot on the prime rib... but short of that one spot...the rest of the prime rib was warm! And for $12 prime rib, hubby thought it was still an excellent deal!!! (Hubby claim we've been to more expensive places and have gotten cuts of prime rib that were a LOT MORE FATTY than this piece that we got tonight!!!) I also wanted to add that I got enough leftovers from my linguini w/baby clams to last me quite a few meals... especially if I throw in some leftover omelette veggies to go along with the meal. :) I think we've found a new regular dinner spot!!! :) (Of course, to save $, we'll go in my (gas friendlier) car next time...)

Years ago, the cook and some of the waitstaff from nearby Little Henry's opened a similar restaurant half a block away. Since then, I've eaten there dozens of times. I own an Americana baseball cap and t-shirt. The biggest advantage is its diverse menu: some Vietnamese, some Italian, and some American. The quality has declined somewhat over the past decade, but the biggest thing rating it 4 stars rather than 5 is its lack of vegetarian options. There are about five vegetarian menu items, none of which is particularly good. For meat-eaters, though, it's top notch.

Note To Self: Don't order apps in addition to dinner when planning on seeing a movie at the Balboa afterwards. In fact, I'm entirely certain that you should not order more then one entree per two people when planning to see a movie afterwards. Or breathe. Only thing that kept me from succumbing to the food coma during my movie was was the 40 mazillion ounce Thai Ice Tea. This is like a theme park entitled "American Portions Meets Crazy Menu." In fact, the boy and I played, "What is not on this menu" for days after eating here.

I use to come to this place a lot with my mom. the food is great with big proportions and the price is cheap. They serve American food - hamburgers, philly cheese steak, Italian food - spaghetti, veal and vietnamese food. kinda cool. The last time I came here for breakfast it was under $20 for 3 people. The staff here are all pretty nice and friendly.

This place is really good. and now they have new utensils and plate and everything. i always go to this place when i not sure what to eat. this place has everything, if your feeling like a burger, they have everything cheesburger, hamburger, mushroom, kobe beef burger, even a philly cheese stake sandwich. if you not feeling a burger you can get pho, pastas, spaghetti, steaks, prime rib, viet bbq beef over rice, even a delicious wonton soup. over all this place has everything and GREAT customer service.

I come here for the linguini and clams. They know how to do this one right. All the deep fried items are great. The ravioli is good. If I remember correctly, the chef used to work at Little Henry's and so has the same recipe as the two-chain restaurant. Never had the Vietnamese food here and don't wish to try it. I tried the prime rib here once and that would be my last time. I think they freeze the rack, then thaw part of it per order, probably microwave it, and it comes out luke warm, tough, and plain nasty onto your plate. The side salad is generic. The ambiance is like the salad. The prices fit a tight budget.

3.5 "we're gonna have a pho dat biet, cheese burger medieum rare , crab noodle special, root beer, and ummm thai iced tea.." americana... italian/american/vietnamese all in one. staff is all family and really nice. they have pda's to take your order.. pertty hightech for a hole. i used to come here during city college days because my friend and then girlfriend used to live around here... cheese burger, medium rare,do it. and on the asian side, get the crab soup special noodle thing.

I give this place props for trying to merge so many different cuisines together so everyone in your group can have what they really want without compromising. Their service is fast and friendly (you know it's stepped up when a little place like this has all their servers make their orders on palm pilots)... The prices are pretty good for the size of the food, and where else do you get tons of steamed veggies on the side of any of their entree plates? I wish their ox-tail soup would have more ox-tails and less soup but it's pretty good on a 2nd day serving in a bread bowl back at home. Calamari, onion rings, and breaded mussels appetizers are also good choices for pre-entree eats. I love their 3 color bean drink...as a drink on the side. I also like their beef ball noodle pho too. Especially on cold days by the ocean. It's all comfort food as everything is homemade, it depends on how your palatte has evolved from home either at the hands of your mom or dad's cooking. So for those used to your own version of homecooking...this is pretty darn close.

Went here with a friend after watching the sunset tonight, it being close to the ocean beach area, and what a nightmare trying to find a parking spot!! Did eventually we did and among the many Balboa Street dining spots and decided on this one, though it looked like two different places but actually one!! What a strange combination having Vietnamese and Italian foods in one place but.... through the window we could see it was nicely crowded, which is always a good sign!! ;-) I ordered the Veal Parmigiana with Eggplant and covered with mozzarella cheese. It was quite ample on a huge plate, actually enough to share with a friend as in my case!! Only bad was a single uni-sex bathroom which I never got to see to wash my hands as it was so busy....

4 stars because they offer both italian AND vietnamese food! and the sizes are large (even the drinks). cheap food, good for groups and a little something for everyone.

This review is part of an ongoing series detailing the hunt for a perfect bowl of pho. On a whim I decided to try this place out because I had nothing better to do on a Sunday morning. It was a little confusing (the whole idea of an Italian/American/Vietnamese restaurant is confusing to me) trying to figure out where to sit. One half of the place has a very diner-ish quality to it while the adjoining other half looks like a traditional pho restaurant. I sat in the diner part and order their large combo bowl of pho (every pho place has an extra large bowl with everything and its usually item #1 on the menu) and some spring rolls. Spring rolls were good, not great, and the peanut sauce was tasty but gelatinous, so bleh. The pho came soon after and it was chock-full of meaty goodness. I really hate it when some places are stingy as hell with their slices of meat and tripe, etc. and Americana avoided that problem. The broth had a more assertive quality to it than I'm used to, but it wasn't unpleasant, just different. Overall, it was a decent bowl of pho at a normal price. Nothing fancy or special, just good. The search continues.

Americana Grill has a wide variety of choices, friendly service, and really good food. Their Thai Iced Tea is HUGE, and it's always worth it. I go there often with my buddies, and we all love the food there. I normally get the Hamburger steak, Chicken Eggplant, or the Extra Large Pho (which is surprisingly big and cheap).

Disclaimer: I grew up around this restaurant. I know their food isn't five-star cuisine. I went here for a quick meal with friends on a WEDNESDAY night, and I have NO IDEA what happened. This really disappointed me. -1 star. Waiting at the door like a stray dog waiting for a bone. Why would you not seat paying customers? You're looking at us... are we supposed to seat ourselves? 2 minutes later... okay, we're sitting in the back. -1 star. I asked them to come back to me for my order, and when I was ready I told him I wanted. He MENTALLY, took my order down. The bill comes and my food was no where to be found. Funny thing was, it wasn't even on the bill. He comes to our table right when our bill comes ... "What did you order again?" ... No, it's too late. Thanks. That was 20 minutes ago. -1 star. My friend ordered the veal cutlet. 15 minutes later, we are notified that they ran out of veal, but he can pick something else. He picked the chicken steak. When our bill came, they charged him for the veal. I KNOW IT WAS $1.99 DIFFERENCE, but ... you know, these days you can buy 2 separate meals for $2. The lady goes "THEY'RE THE SAME PRICE!" and my friend goes, "No, it's not." and shows them the menu. I really don't know what happened here but this really wasn't what I was expecting for some quick food... hurry up and read this before they delete this to improve their rating. I have a feeling they're going to.

the food was good but honestly the service was the best I've had in my entire life . My boyfriend and I were early for a movie and we walked in the staff cheerfully greeted us immediately sat us and brought watermelon which might be random but was so tasty who cares?! The food was great and came out really quick so we weren't late for the movie. Also, the staff was ON IT i'm talkin refills up the wazoo and they even replaced my boyfriend's straw even though he didn't ask. This place made me full and happy!

I used to dine here for lunch and occasionally dinner. I always love their pho. it's fresh and yummy. One of the decent places in SF to get pho but it can be a bit pricey than regular pho places. I also love their spicy chicken wings! it's one of the best SPICY chicken wings I had. There are also a lot of different dishes to try. If I am in the neighborhood, I will definitely drop by again!

I eat here all the time because, well-I hate cooking and cleaning up afterwards is such a pain. This isnt the best food I've ever tasted, but it gets the job done. Portions are HUGE~ Breakfast is far better than lunch or dinner, but over all I havent tasted anything that was terrible, but it wasnt the best either. Aside from the food, its a hole in wall mom and pop place. BUT the SERVICE IS GREAT! The same two guys are there AROUND THE CLOCK and they always have coffee in hand when they seat us. P.S. The Coffee is tastey and not too strong. So I give them another star for that!~

Americana has become the fall back restaurant for my friends and I. No parking on geary? Americana. Don't feel like waiting a long time for a meal? Americana. They serve American, Vietnamese and Italian food here, and they're all fairly good. What I like a lot is their selection of drinks including Egg Yolk Soda, and 3 Colors Drink (Although it turns into one if you decide to mix it =D). Last time I went, i got a Denver Burger medium well, and a 3 colors drink. The burger had a bit too much mayo on it, but was fairly good overall. They're not the best Pho in town, but they're not bad either. Also a great place to go if you go to Wash, since it's close and cheap =D.

This restaurant is an old neighborhood favorite. It's unique because they offer both Vietnamese and American cuisine. On one side of the restaurant there's a grill where you can order pasta, burgers, sandwiches, and roasted chicken. On the other side you can order hot pho noodle soup and rice plates. I recommend sitting on the Vietnamese side if you don't want to smell like food. I like the steak sandwich with a side order of fries - the portion size is decent for what you pay. I tried the pasta with clams and the serving size was huge. It was enough to feed two people including the soup or salad and garlic bread. I had to bring half my entre home. They offer a variety of appetizers: breaded zucchini, fries, fried calamari rings, etc. Most of the prices have remained the same with a few increases. A majority of the entrees are less than $10. I guarantee you will be full with just an entre alone. Come with a huge appetite.

Pretty decent for the price. My favorite dish there is the roast lamb. I also like their clam fettucine

Italian, Vietnamese and American food, all in one place. Such a random combination. Lots of menu options here and on the back wall, they have a specials board with a meat item and pasta item together. If you come before 5pm, you can order off their breakfast menu (good prices). Good prices, huge portions that can easily feed two people, friendly service. However, I'm only giving three stars because the quality of the food was nothing to write home about. Had the Italian sausage and spinach fettucine, chicken soup and garlic bread. Chicken soup tasted like Campbell's soup with some extra vegetables added. Nothing wrong with Campbell's, but I kind of expect better from a restaurant. The pasta was plentiful, but greasy and somewhat bland--I kept wishing they had added some pepper or *something* besides oil to season it. Garlic bread was soft, lukewarm, but garlicky and buttery. All in all, Americana Grill is not a bad place...would probably come back here for a quick, cheap meal, and would try the breakfast menu out...but probably not the place to go if you're trying to impress someone.

Can a restaurant be any cooler? Check it: This place serves pasta (in huge portions), steaks, vietnamese rice plates, vietnamese noodle plates, pho, sandwiches, spring rolls, curry, and all sorts of other stuff....AND IT'S PRETTY DAMN CHEAP WHEN COMPARING TO OTHER PLACES AND SERVING SIZES!! Only at Americana's can I get my linguini and spring rolls...only at Americana's This has been a Mike Vuong PSA!!

This restaurant has been there for a long time. I had a baby cockroach crawling in my blanched vegetables. Beware vegetables blanched and left sitting if blanched fresh it would be dead. In the middle we had lots of flies flying near our food.

this place is nothing short of amazing. i've ONLY had their cheeseburger. no matter what time of day it is, they'll make you a cheeseburger. i keep *wanting* to order something else, but that cheeseburger is so darned good. thanks to my boyfriend, i have tasted their omelettes and they are fabulous as well. i don't think you can go wrong here. it was one of those places that i found by accident. wonderful accident.

OK, so they're trying... The pho was average, the burger is hamburger meat without any seasoning what so ever placed on piece of bread. It's fairly inexpensive and they are very nice.

I've usually only get the cheesesteak to go, It's very good, but it has gotten smaller. Ive had their other selections, all very good and great portions, fair for the price. Its also a great mix of comfort foods. cheesesteak, pho, ox tail! there's no place like it!

ate here today (10.09.2009) for the very first time. my friend and i came in here for a late lunch before seeing a movie at the Balboa. it wasn't crowded at all. besides us, there were two other people. the service was good. i ordered the chicked club, sans bacon...the chicken was kinda dry. my friend order the cheese burger with curly fries...he said it was kinda greasy. he also had the Vietnamese Iced Coffee (which he said was a bit strong for his taste.) all in all, it was a pretty good meal for a reasonable price. i'll most likely come back here to try something different.

I've been coming to this place for over ten years. What I have always liked about this place is that it serves comfort food at a reasonable price and there's quite a bit of variety to choose from. The prices have gone up a little bit since I first started going there, but that's to be expected. I've tried their pho, Vietnamese rice dishes, Italian pasta dishes, and American fare, like burgers and Philly cheese steaks.. Nothing I've ever tried there ever sticks out as truly great and above par but It's nice to have options, like having spaghetti and Italian sausage and a Thai iced tea to wash it down. (FYI.. While the Thai iced tea is a bit on the pricey side @ $3.25, the glass they serve it in is huge.) It's always been a nice neighborhood restaurant in the far reaches of the Richmond district. The last few times I've been there, I noticed changes. First, I noticed they started using fancier plates. Then when i went there last week, I realized they made a drastic change.. They actually updated the salad and soup that comes with the entree. Before, the salad was just iceberg lettuce and a tomato slice and the soup with a bland white corn or clam chowder. Now, they've spiced it up by adding some mixed greens on the salad, The soup is still chowder, but they serve it in a fancier bowl and add some basil and bacon bits on top. The soup really improved greatly with that minor change. My cousin and I just looked at our plates in amazement that they made such a change. LOL! Also, I didn't see the waiters with the PDAs taking our orders last time, so I hope they are still there since they were always super friendly and attentive. The new girl there that didn't seem familiar with the menu and thought she screwed up our orders when she didn't.

Well I hate to be the one to bring this place down but honestly I didn't find anything to rave about except the service, which was nice and fast, although they bring the garlic bread way before the dish, which is not good if you like warm bread with your meal. The salad was standard Denny's diner fare, watery iceberg lettuce doused with dressing. The Bun (noodles with greens, BBQ pork and eggrolls) was sub par, but more surprising was that the Fettucini pesto was not too great as well. I was hoping one or the other would be recommendable, but alas... Nevertheless, if one is feeling adventurous maybe the other items are better, but I won't be going back, there are too many great places to eat. Also, $10 for a large cheesesteak with fries? $10 for a plate of pasta? Is that what people call cheap?

I am not sure what lead the owners to open a restaurant that serves Vietnamese and Italian food, but I really like the idea. I come here often because the food is between good & great, and the prices and portions are very good. One of my favorites is the cheese steak which I think is the best in the Bay. Go figure! I was living in Daly City and I would drive here just because of their cheese steak. It comes in two sizes small and large. The small is big enough for most people, but I get the large eat half and take the other half home. If I eat Vietnamese here I usually order the soups. Some of the soups are spicy so ask before ordering. They will warn you if it is so don't let this prevent from trying the soups. If you like spicy though this is the place for you. I asked for a recommendation of a spicy soup and I am not sure what soup it was but it was blazing spicy. I was sweating and my eyes were watery. Heaven :) I will be back again and again. Hooray for Americana Grill!!!

Love the selection of food at this place. Nowhere else can i get American, Italian and Vietnamese food all at once. The pricing is very good considering the big portions. I used to drop here sometimes to pick up the gigantic Philly CS sandwich which of the hook. This is a place I go to when i really don't know what i want to eat but i want to have a good meal. PS the cappuccino mousse caked is the bomb.

Ok I've been going here since they first opened when I was a little kid going to school in the neighborhood. Prices have changed a bit. Portions have slimmed down some. But the thing is you can still feed your mama, papa, and baby's mama with a single meal from here. It's not authenic Italian food, but I think they serve authentic Vietnamese. 1 out of 2 thats good odds! But I'm not really here for any of that. The only thing I ever order here is the basic no nonsense cheeseburger. You know you're getting a real burger when they actually ask you, "How do you want it?" Medium rare and borderline bloody for me, Thanks! This is my favorite burger in the city. Sorry Nations. Sorry Sliders. No burger in the city beats the Americana Burger. (if anyone has any competition I'm willing to give it a shot) And it costs like $5 and comes with french fries and insta-bag-salad to put in your burger on the side. It's served on a flakey toasted roll which basically seals the deal. I heart AMERICANA Cheeseburger!!!! P.S. The mozzarella cheese sticks are pretty tasty too. They are probably frozen and from costco, but they taste good.

I've been coming to this place for almost a decade. Like the other reviews have said, they have both vietnamese and italian food, with a touch of greasy spoon american. Omlettes are good, burgers are good, pasta is good, philly cheese is good, the vietnamese food is decent. Staff is super friendly and if you go alot they will remember you. I get a kick out of how ghetto it looks inside but how some of the waiters uses a palm pilot to take orders. Good bets include: Most of the pasta dishes Chicken Fried Steak Phillycheese

Americana is an "only in SF" kind of place. You can get better Italian, Vietnamese and American elsewhere...but you can't get these three at one place anywhere in the whole freakin' world. 1.5 stars for only in SF, 1.5 stars for serving decent but not fabulous grub. Yup, the food is only average to above average but a great value. Basically it's a neighborhood "I need a lot of food and cheap" kind of place and in that respect it totally works. If you're going here for any other reason, it's-not-going-to-work. Hint: if you get pasta NEVER order a "cream" sauce, stick with tomato based...maybe pesto...that is all.

This place serves up enough variety for those indecisive folks. I had a bowl of beef stew noodle and thought the food was more average. What really turned me off was the smell of the place. Better to order the food to-go next time.

This place rules! When I lived down the street from this place I ate there all the time. They make a mean bacon cheese burger. It's pretty cheap too which was awesome when I was broke. I live far as fuck from this place now but I still eat there almost once a week. I love this place!

This place blows. You know a place is going to suck when the menu has 5000 things on it and many items contain unrelated ingredients. I had some sketchy 1/2 chicken dish that apparently came with (steamed?) vegetables and pasta. The 1/2 chicken was deep fried. Ok, that's fine... A little strange, but OK. But the random juice from the chicken and the water from the pasta and under-steamed vegetables contained something that made me sick shortly thereafter. My girlfriend kind of liked whatever she had (I think it was a burger), but since I'm the one that got sick, I control the yelp star. Way better options on Balboa, but only relative to the generally depressing dining atmosphere in the neighborhood.

What can I say but awesome. The price and portions cannot be beat, but more importantly the food is mmm mmm good. Amazing they can serve Vietnamese, Italian and American and still be quick and delicious. A friend introduced me to this place and I honestly have been back almost every week. Great eats at great prices. 4 Stars since they could benefit from renovations

Friendly servers on palm pilots and jade rings, but not so great food! I've given this place one too many chances and this is my last straw! My last chance for American Grill was when I had two nasty discoveries in my food in one meal! First, I discovered a bug in my ice cube floating around my ice water. Second, when my order came, I was disgusted at a strand of hair in my pho! I thought, "that's it, I'm never coming here again!" I've given this place numerous chances with my orders. My friends and I come here because it accomodates those who want Viet and those who want Italian...but otherwise, there are many other cleaner alternatives! The food is OK...nothing special. The Vietnamese dishes are usual...like in most Vietnamese restaurants. Their hamburgers and side salads are pretty plain and tasteless. Don't try their Italian food...it's just wacko. The sauces are terrible tasting.

This is a-must-once-a-week place to eat. I introduced this place to my boyfriend (now, husband) when he first moved to San Francisco. We love this place because it is Three-in-One( Vietnamese/ American/ Italian food in one restaurant).. My husband loves the eggs benedict, veal parmigiana, and cheese steak. This place also made him falling in love with Thai iced tea. Their thai iced tea is just....BIG...compare to other places. The only reason why I give Americana Grill 4 stars is that sometimes I smell something bad when I sit by the window (I think it's from below the kitchen cutting board or something that has not been washed for days because I used to work in the restaurant and I know how bad the smell is like). But anyways, I just sit near by the tv so that I won't smell anything.

The restaurant is not exactly nice, but I love their pastas. The pesto with clams and linguine is delicious w/ their garlic bread. But my favorite is the angel hair pasta w/ herbs and baby clams. The food is cheap too!

ok, this place confuses me a little...is it an american grill place or is it a vietnamese place? the answer...its both! such an interesting concept. they have a pretty large menu that consists of both american food (burgers, sandwiches), pasta, and various vietnamese noodle/rice dishes and appetizers. needless to say everyone i was with was able to get what they wanted. a friend wanted french fries so she got a blt that came with them. i wanted something soupy so i got the bun bo hue...which was actually pretty legit. if i was in the area i would definitely consider coming back.

Where else can you go and get vietnamese, italian, and american food in one restaurant? They have everything. I was craving pho and Lily L was craving a burger, so we came here the other day and enjoyed our different types of food together. Pho is decently cheap with a pretty big portion. Burger is huge, though not served in a typical burger bun but more of a roll. They've got sandwiches, burgers, pasta, chickensteaks, pho, rice plates, breakfast, skillets... I always forget to come here or else I'd be going more often.

I have been going to Americana since I was a little kid and it still does not disappoint til this very day. Americana is a richmond district treasure as it features both American/Italian and Vietnamese food. Some dishes I've really enjoyed are spinish chicken, breaded pork chops, and the bacon cheeseburger is to die for. They are generous on the amount of thai iced tea they give you as well. If you're a local looking for a good neighborhood joint, Americana is the place to be.

I always come back to Americana for a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich that I can depend on. The servers might not speak English very well, but they understand it if you want to change the American cheese (bleh) to Swiss or Provolone. You just can't tell if they got it because they pronounce it incorrectly when they are confirming. I've also had pasta and burgers here and they are filling. I have friends from San Jose who ask me to bring them there every time they come up. Prices went up, but I still end up there eating with my friends who are just as addicted.

I always forget to "check in" when I'm here, because the food smells so good when you walk in the door it's like a distracting slap in the mouth. I laughed when I first heard this place had Vietnamese, Italian, and American cuisine. I believe "Uhh... o...k..." was my response. Well, I suck. And this place rocks. If I lived in Sunset I would be here ALL THE TIME. I usually end up ordering something off the Vietnamese menu, but I've sampled other dishes (like french toast) that tasted hella good and I think I'd be willing to try almost anything off this menu. The items are decently priced, and there's so much variety you might end up staring at the extensive menu for at least 15 minutes. I mean seriously, pho, pasta, fried oysters, omelets, Kobe burgers, and etc.? Wow. This place totally caters to my food ADD. It's usually crowded but not unbearably so, and staff is nice and pretty quick. The restaurant itself is simple and clean. I'll absolutely be returning.

If you come here to eat, there is really only 1 thing i order from this place and thats the VEAL CUTLET. They make it great here. I've tried some other dishes but you can't beat the Veal. It's cheap too, 10 bucks for veal, soup, spagetti and garlic bread. Hard to beat that.

OMG! Their portions are huge for such low prices. I usually get take out for the family about once a month on my way home. When they tell you 10 -15 minutes, it's almost always ready before that amount of time! Their Chicken Fried Steak (my son's favorite), Roast Beef Club and Hamburger Steak are great. My wife enjoys their Ossobucco. Their Vietnamese selections are also delicious. The service is friendly and hospitable. Very accomodating when you want to modify your selection (rice instead of vermicelli, extra gravy for the chicken fried steak, etc.). Check it out! Never a wait.

Went there on a Saturday morning & not too crowded. Plenty of seating. Menu options were plenty ....Italian, American & Vietnamese. Prices I thought were fair considering all the choices. Had the Pot Roast/Spaghetti - very tender & delicious with a good sized portion. Tried the Sirloin Steak/Eggs - umm, it looked like its been in the Freezer a bit too long and lacked taste. Had to smother it with A1 sauce. Lastly had the Vietnamese Noodle with Spring Rolls - delicious & good serving size. Would definitely recommend considering the menu options, price/portion & seating.

This place always satisfies...Chicken Fried Steak & Spaghetti? Hell yeah! I grew up on 38th & Anza and saw Little Henry's (used to be "Agnes' " for you old schoolers)come up then this place a few years later. Portions are big (so are their ice teas!), service quick and it has the old mom & pops feel to it.

Haven't tried the the Italian menu, but the noodles soups are amazing!. The breakfast favorites are good. The services is quick and pleasant. I don't think I have to question the menu selections... Regardless, whatever you order, the quality is excellent.

We introduced my cousin to Americana Grill yesterday since he just moved to the Bay Area. This place is great because there is something for everyone - Vietnamese dishes, Italian dishes, cheeseburgers, steak, etc. The few times we've gone, we've had their pho, curly friends, garlic bread, pasta, Philly Cheesesteak, and pork chop over rice. All were yummy considering they serve such a wide range. But remember these are Asian people making your Italian dishes so if you want ethnic Italian pasta, you probably shouldn't come here. They're pretty high tech for a small place - they use PDAs to take your order! The prices are decent and the portions are pretty big. Service is good. Gotta love these hole in the wall places.

This is a neighborhood spot that my friends and I have been going to for years now. When you can't decide what to have, this is the place to go. Where else can you get pho, italian, and burgers all in the same spot. The portions are also huge, but the quality of the food is good but not great. Since they do a little bit of everything, it's hard to focus on one type of food. If you're hungry, then this is the place to go, but if you want really good pho, italian or burgers there are better places in the area to go.

This place is just OK. My sister loves this place. I don't like it to much but they have allot of customer. you do get allot of food I just kinda wish it was better quality. I love Spaghetti but it was OK. I didn't like the sauce too much very thick. They also have PHO which isn't that bad. I would go there to eat that. The burgers are also OK. If I want junk food than this is the place for you to come and if you are hungry and want a big meal. There Breakfast is good.

I went to this place for dinner because it got good reviews. I ordered some Italian something or other. The food was terrible and really expensive. I thought that maybe it would be better for breakfast but it was just mediocre. The pancakes were average. They did a good job with the poached eggs on the eggs Benedict. Too bad. At least the service was fast.

This restaurant is really interesting because of it's large variety of food. From breakfast omelets to pho to italian food. The breaded calamari was quite delicious and my grilled beef rice was not bad too. I didn't have too high expectations because of the lack of focus in food genre. but it was not bad.

WWABD??? There are times in my culinary history when I'm presented with a quandary, and it's happening with greater frequency as of late. A food of unknowable origin is presented in front of me for consumption. Such was the case when I ordered the recommended meat combination Pho. Per the menu it contained slices of rare beef, flank, tendon, and beef-balls. Sure enough the Pho arrives and there are beef balls floating in the bowl along with strips of a thick white material with appendages on it. That's when I start my mantra: WWABD... WWABD... What Would Anthony Bourdain Do?? That crazy man would eat while smiling the whole time. So, that's what I did. The Pho was a salty beef based soup with a ton of noodles in it. Frankly the bowl was too big and even if didn't have appetizers I still wouldn't have finished more than half. I ate the beef balls having not figured out what part of the animal they came from, still don't want to know actually. The white strips were tendons and have the consistency of calamari. All in all, not bad. The menu is eclectic, too eclectic. Italian, American, and Vietnamese. I like Jalapeno Poppers and I like Pho, I just don't think they compliment each other in one meal. The service is fantastic and the food incredibly cheap. Four hungry adults who ordered three appetizers and four entrees were fed for under 50 dollars. Would I go back? If I was wanting Vietnamese and was on a budget, sure would.

I'm not gonna lie guys, I can't stand this place. I can list all the things wrong but I shall keep it short, Their clam chowder is thin and milky because I know its homemade but not the good homemade, their Cheeseburgers are plain because I know they made their own hamburger patties, their Garlic bread is tasteless only because they makde their own garlic bread, and the Pasta gave me extreme diarhea only because it was sitting around too long. I do have to give them props for their awesome assed Grilled Cheese Sandwich but it costs 4 dollars so poo poo on them. Sadly My friends and I always come here because they also serve Pho so we can accomadate those who want american or those who want Oriental cuisine. I can't really comment much on their Pho since I don't fancy the stuff. Also before their remodel they had cocharoaches crawling against the wall and a swarm of flies somehow got inside their fish sauce so my friend was eating his Pho with some extra protein inside. Enjoy.

Yes it is all about the steak(medium rare the way to go)and eggs over rice with a side of french toast. Wash it all down with a big thai ice tea and you are ready for a siesta. I love this place, been dining here for the last 10 years- thanks Tony!!!

I went here yesterday and ordered the fresh clams and linguine again. OMFG, I think I fall more in love with this dish each time I come here. Superb--and they gave me 18 clams this time!

This is where I go when I'm too lazy to cook and too lazy to go somewhere farther. The variety (Vietnamese, Italian, Burgers, etc.) is nice when no one can decide what to eat or agree on a specific type of food, but nothing on the menu is particulary memorable. The portions are HUGE for what you're paying, but the flavor of a majority of the dishes - especially the pasta - is mediocre. I mostly prefer the Vietnamese food, like the spring rolls, pho, or grilled pork chops over rice. The Thai iced teas are gigantic and decent as well.

Steve can get french fries and a sandwich and I can get the bun noodles (whoever thought of putting meat and a spring roll on top of noodles is a genius) and we all leave happy.

came here with a friend for dinner. their vietnamese food tasted like any other average vietnamese place and their pasta isn't as good as some italian restaurant. the food is okay. the service is okay. overall, it's okay.

One of my favorite places to eat! I could go on and on about this place, but I'll just give you the basics... By far, the best Vietnamese food I've ever had. The service is great; the waitstaff are so friendly and really really nice. I love them. They treat you so well. And it's so comfortable here -- although there are always plenty of people here, the seats are never too crowded and it's always so clean! (If you read my reviews, you'll know by now that I'm a neat freak.) The best pork chop/egg cake/shredded pork over rice plate I've had -- and I've had plenty. Their pho comes in a BIG bowl. And all their meals are totally affordable here. Oh.. what I wouldn't give to be eating there right now.

I've been going there for almost 10 years! When it first opened, the portions were huge and the food was always hot and yummy. However, in the past few years, the quality has diminished. The portions are still large but the food doesn't taste as good. The spaghetti sauce can sometimes be watery and lukewarm. The soup can be lukewarm as well. The most consistently good item is the Vietnamese menu... always hot and fresh. If you want similar food but always good, go to their sister restaurant, "The Happy Chef" (on Geary between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. The original chef of Americana opened up this restaurant and he cooks here daily. His menu is similar but he puts a spin to the recipe!)

Average food quality, nothing to be super excited about. If your in the area than sure why not, but if your out for a adventure with super fine quality than this isn't your place.

Luv this place. We usually make a stop over when we're making an Ocean Beach visit. I like that there's a lotta variety on the menu. Most of the time, I'm on their pastas and other times the chicken cheese steak. I agree that parking can be a bitch during various times of the day. Usually on Fridays afternoons, it's easy to come by.

When I wake up feeling like shit, I like to wander around the corner from my house to this place with all the people who slept over. The portions are good, the eggs are always perfectly done, the place is super cheap, and they have basically everything you could want. And the coffee is really good. This morning there were five of us, everybody got a full size breakfast, lots of coffee and side dishes, and the total was $55. Service was quick. They loose one star for food quality -it's along the lines of IHOP.

I could eat their Vietnamese Bun as my last meal; I order it every time I go. Love the palm pilot packing wait staff that always remember what I like. Also, walking out of there for less than $20 for two makes me want to jump for joy. The appetizers are so/so, but my man says the burgers are good enough to drool over.

I've been here like ten times and only have been not happy once. The burgers are amazing. They are juicy, big, greasy, tasty, wonderful. The pasta dishes are rich, portioned well, and leave you full and more to take home. Just amazing it really doesnt get any better than this. What is even more amazing is how well these chinese cooks make Italian and american food.

    (5)
  • Robert C.

Their italian dishes are surprisingly good. Their italian dishes have an asian-twist to it: tomato sauces are less sour and somewhat sweeter. Portions are extra large and great value. Vietnamese dishes are also good, but I'm usually opting for the Italian ones.

    (5)
  • A Y.

One star for friendly & quick service, but all the food is somehow completely flavorless. Tastes like everything came from a jar or can. I guess the large portions and prices are what keeps them in business.

My favorite place to go when I get home from work and don't feel like cooking. It's a good place to go with my family, because my my grandma is into the philly cheese steaks, while my parents might want pho or a rice plate, and I can get a club sandwich, and I can try some of my sister's pasta. I still have yet to try the curry here. It's also close to the Balboa, so its a good place to stop by before or after a show. Good sized portions, reasonable prices, good service, family friendly.

If you can't decide on between Italian or Vietnamese for dinner, then you need to get over here and get your Italianamese on. I think they do the Vietnamese food a little better than the Italian. My friends and I seem to end up here every so often and mixing the two cuisines hasn't done my stomach wrong yet. The spicy ox tail soup is worth giving a shot.

This place has good food and it's cheap. The lemon chichen is really good. Although the salad is pretty plain with just iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato, it passes. The menu has a large selections to choose from. Hamburgers to noodles. The only thing is that the parking SUCKS.

Tears ran down my face I was laughing so hard when I found out a place named 'American Grill & Fountain' served Vietnamese and Italian food.... and they specialize in philly cheese steaks!!!! Which is what? New York Italian? Too funny. But I have to say that's the best damn cheese steak I've had in this city. I've also had their Vermicelli (is that how you spell it?) Which was good, but not to die for. The staff are super sweet and always remember me, which might be because I went on a philly-binge one week and ate like 5 of them :) Compliment the chef on his jade ring!

  • M. W.

Massive cheap noodle soup bowls. You can seriously drown in one of the the spicy beef noodle bowls. I have no idea why it is twice the size of their pho bowls. Their drinks are also gigantic, I think they are training to feed a mutant army or something. You can't go wrong with the pho... what are you waiting for?!

I love this place! I've been coming here on occasion since I was in high school. No where else can you get American, Italian and Vietnamese cuisine. Their portions are huge for the price you pay. I'm typically able to turn one meal into two or three. The food is pretty good too. My favorites are the pastas and the grilled pork over vermicelli with spring rolls.

My bf loves this place and today he finally decided to show me what this place is all about. Like everyone says in their reviews, this restaurant is an odd combo... italian and vietnamese.... but what do I care... as long as the food is good, right? And the food is good. I had the linguine with pesto and clams. It came with a sald, which was mediocre, but I really wasn't here for the salad and with garlic bread, which I really didn't like at all. Talk about a lot of food! The plate was humongous! I definitely couldn't finish my food and had to get a to go bag. My bf got the ox tail with rice... that was yummy. The ox tail was succulent and moist and the sauce was perfect with rice. Perfect! There is way too much on the menu and it is a little overwhelming, but just come here often and order something different every time. Overall, for the price and serving, it is so worth it and the food is really good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

i love the vietnamese dishes here, especially the egg rolls, which is fresh, fried, and crunchy. the beef pho as well as the vermicelli dishes are great too. i also recommend the three colors drink- colorful and tasty, but not too sweet. the american food, though, is not as good as the vietnamese fare.

Now this Vietnamesed owned Italian restaurant actually works. Eye poppingly large servings at a low price that actually tastes decent. I haven't tried the Vietnamese portion of the menu yet so I can't comment on their pho. The Italian side is acceptable especially if you're on a budget and hungry.

ok, i only tried the breakfast here. i ordered eggwhites, dry toast, and potatoes. i got buttered toast and discovered later that it's $1 extra to order eggwhites. the menu is super huge, so big that you wonder what are your chances of picking one of the few dishes that they do well (b/c they couldn't possibly do them ALL well). i can see the appeal of a place like this- no frills, cheap eats, thai coffee- but this is not the place for a special meal.

The first thing I really like about Americana is that it's just a walk down the street from my house. ^_^ The menu here is great....if you want seafood, vietnamese, pasta, breakfast, philly cheese steaks, you name it-it's here at Americana. So far I've had their omelettes, wonton noodle soup, philly sandwich, and burger and all have been really good. Good food without having to drive and find parking----priceless.

I have known the owner since I was a little kid because he cooked at another one of the now defunct restaurants on Balboa Street. So, I am gonna be loyal. Overall, it's the place where the boyfriend and I wander in more often than not. We get it all here: veal parm and the pho. If we want breakfast at 5 PM, they will do it for us. It's what the neighborhood diner in the Edward Hopper painting would be in San Francisco 2007.

  • Ally W.

This place is good for a lot of things. I personally go there whenever I feel like it, the service isn't that great, but the food makes up for it. The soup is sometimes cold, but the PHO is good. I give it a 3.5

  • Trina D.

the burger comes in a thick and elongated hand-formed all-beef patty, sizzling hot off the grill and dripping in melted cheese, slapped inside a griddle-toasted french roll. the whole thing was cut in half, making two full-sized burgers for maximum three-way enjoyment (if you're sharing with a partner). you can have it piled on with mushrooms, or 'cados, or chili, if you swing that way. pile on the crunchy veggie fixins, served on the side so the hot stays hot and the cool stays cool. it's a two-fister, so handle it with care as you maneuver it towards your open and eager mouth. take a bite (oooof), and slurp at the meaty juicy goodness spilling down your chin. take your time to savor this burger, and swallow it all down real good.

I haven't try american/italian food here, but I did try vietnamese food. Overall, the food is good and customer service is wonderful. From the outside, it seems very clean. A good typical restaurant to enjoy lunch with friends and have deep conversations.

my favorite place for burgers, i highly recommend the ABC burger - you know, if you aren't in danger of a heart attack anytime soon. the pasta dishes are hit and miss, the cheese steaks are huge, and the staff is so god damn friendly, i swear they're relatives of some kind.

dood! i dunno what is up with me with pho and sandwiches. but man.. this is the first place ive tried them together. let me teach you all the secret to this new art. 1. order a large pho. 2. order a large philly cheese steak sandwich. 3. dont eat till you get both. 4. dip the sandwich in the pho and take a bite. 5. smile. try with orange soda. americana grill has a bunch of stuff, its a mix of vietnamese, american and italian. everything is pretty decent here. but caution, the philly and pho are not nearly as good alone as they are together.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
